A lumpectomy can be done in case of a non cancerous lump in breast as well as in case of cancerous lump. In case of non cancerous lump the surgeon removes the lump only. In case of cancerous lump surgeon removes the cancerous tumor along with a rim of potentially healthy tissue around it (known as the margins) without removing the entire breast. This procedure is also called a partial mastectomy.
This surgery option removes the entire breast (or as much of the breast tissue as possible). In most cases, a skin-sparing mastectomy is an option.
Oncoplastic Breast Surgery
Oncoplastic breast surgery aims to achieve good aesthetic outcomes for women with breast cancers who would have unacceptable outcomes with other BCS techniques, and in addition, enable breast-conserving surgery for larger breast cancers.
This is plastic surgery to rebuild the shape of the breast. It may be done at the same time as the cancer surgery or later. Cost of Breast Cancer Surgery depends upon which type of surgery is been performed and also on the age, general health of the patient.
Lymph Node Removal & Lymphedema
In addition to your surgical procedure, your doctor may wish to remove and examine lymph nodes to determine whether the cancer has spread and to what extent. If the surgery involves removal of the breast and also the axillary nodes then the surgery is called Radical Mastectomy and the cost ranges between 120-220 thousand Indian Rupees.
Modified Radical Mastectomy
A modified radical mastectomy is a procedure in which the entire breast is removed, including the skin, areola, nipple, and most axillary lymph nodes; the pectoralis major muscle is spared.
Breast Conservation Surgery (BCS)
Breast-conservation surgery (BCS) is established as a safe option for most women with early breast cancer. The main advantages of the technique utilized should include reproducibility, low interference with the oncologic treatment and long-term results.
For most types of cancer, a biopsy is the only way to make a definitive diagnosis of cancer. If a biopsy is not possible, the doctor may suggest other tests that will help make a diagnosis. Imaging tests may be used to find out whether the cancer has metastasized.
